The HVDC system uses symmetrical monopole convertors, based on voltage source convertors (VSC), and land-based cables: 51km DC cable inside the Channel Tunnel, 14.5 km AC cable to tie up with National Grid’s Sellindge 400kV substation and 3.5 km AC cable to tie up with RTE’s Les Mandarins 400kV substation.The project will provide a low environmental impact with no overhead lines and no undersea cables and a carbon reduction of ~6.1m tons.
