Location: Canada / USA (Flexible – travel required)

Role & Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Site Commissioning Manager to lead commissioning activities for complex projects in various sectors, including power generation, transmission, and industrial automation. This role requires a strategic, hands-on manager capable of managing both the technical and operational aspects of commissioning activities on-site.

The ideal candidate will be based in Canada, with flexibility to travel across various project sites as needed.

  • Manage the entire commissioning process on-site for major projects, ensuring all systems, equipment, and technologies are fully integrated, tested, and operational.
  • Manage a team of commissioning engineers and technicians, ensuring they have the necessary support and resources to complete their tasks effectively.
  • Develop and execute detailed commissioning plans, schedules, and budgets. Oversee resource allocation and ensure the efficient use of personnel, equipment, and materials during the commissioning phase.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for clients on-site. Regularly report on project status, risks, and issues, ensuring all parties are informed and aligned.
  • Ensure that all commissioning activities comply with industry standards, client requirements, safety regulations, and company procedures. Oversee the review and approval of all commissioning documentation.
  • Supervise and conduct system tests, including Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and performance testing. Troubleshoot issues and resolve any technical challenges that arise during testing.
  • Identify potential risks during commissioning, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure that corrective actions are taken when necessary to keep projects on track.
  • Ensure the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance are maintained on all sites. Foster a safety-first culture among the commissioning team.
  • Ensure that all systems are fully commissioned, and documentation (e.g., as-built drawings, test reports, certifications) is completed and handed over to the client.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to the client after commissioning, including troubleshooting, performance optimization, and system upgrades as necessary.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in commissioning, with at least 3 years in a managerial role overseeing commissioning activities for large-scale projects in the energy, power systems, or industrial automation sectors.
  • Strong technical background in commissioning complex systems, including electrical, automation, control systems, SCADA/DCS, and protection systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certifications in commissioning, project management (e.g., PMP), or power systems (e.g., NETA, NEBOSH, or similar) are a plus.
  • Ability to manage commissioning projects, coordinate teams, and ensure timely delivery of systems within budget and scope.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and industry standards.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, with a hands-on approach to resolving issues that arise during commissioning.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English (additional languages are a plus).
  • Willingness to travel to various sites across Canada as needed, including potential on-site stays for extended periods.
